Happy Lips!

We all need extra moisture for smooth, kissable lips, right? Some need it more often than others, depending on skin types, etc. For years, I used Vaseline until I read petroleum jelly doesn't even penetrate into our skin to help moisturize it...geez!

What are you using to moisturize your lips? There are two BIG brands that come to mind, Chapstick and Carmex. So...are they safe? Yes and NO. The environmental working group has a really great website called the cosmetic safety database. www.cosmeticdatabase.com It's a resource for "we the people" to go on and search the safety of our personal care products. I use the website all the time! After you search whatever product you'd like information about, they give a hazard score off to the right. 1 being the lowest level of toxicity, 10 being the highest. They also explain what type of toxicity each product has, whether it be Allergies, Cancer, Endocrine disruption, Develpomental/ Reproductive toxicity, etc.

Chapstick brand scored between 2-7 on toxicity levels. If you are going to buy Chapstick brand, purchase the "All Natural Lip Balm." It scored a 2, which is a low hazard. The Cherry and Strawberry verisons scored a 7....Do not put these on your kisser! Remember you are SWALLOWING these ingredients!

Carmex is awful stuff. It scored 7-9. Stay awaaaaaaay from the Carmex!

So what can you use instead of the harmful versions?

I make Lip balm from scratch for our Pure Decadence line, We call it "Pucker Up!"
I use 4 natural ingredients. Almond oil, Mango butter, Beeswax and Peppermint essential oil. Toxicity level? Unless you are allergic to any of the 4 ingredients, it's a big FAT 0. I sell them for $3.00. If you would like to order one, please email me at PDbyG@aol.com www.puredecadencebyg.com on the products page 2.

Badger brand also makes toxin free lip products... http://www.badgerbalm.com/pc-414-11-usda-certified-organic-lip-balm-sticks.aspx

Cheers to happy, healthy lips!

Until next time,
Galynne
